MJOLNIR POWERED ASSAULT ARMOR/V VARIANT

Yet another variant of the Mjolnir armor that has found its way into the second generation of high tech assault armor fielded by Spartan IVs, the Extra-Vehicular Activity armor’s earliest issued variant can be traced all the way back to the Mjolnir MK IV; the very first Mjolnir system ever equipped by Spartans.

With the goal of improving Spartan survivability and efficiency in zero gravity environments, the EVA armor has prove quite capable in the vacuum of space and equally well on numerous terrestrial locations.

Developed and tested by the UNSC at a Low/Zero Gravity Testing facility in Lister, Aigburth on Ganymede, the EVA armor was developed by integrating feedback on the Summa Deep Space Incident, and is also speculated to have been influenced by the brief skirmish between the UNSC Commonwealth, and a Covenant vessel in orbit above Chi Ceti IV. During that battle three Spartan-IIs, newly outfitted with the Mjolnir MK IV armor boarded the Covenant ship and attempted to detonate in from the inside. Due to Mjolnir being pushed forward by Doctor Catherine Halsey, the armor was not yet as efficient against Covenant weaponry as it would later be.

Unlike the EVA armor, the MK IV was breeched relatively easily, costing Samuel-034 his life.

The hallmark of the armor system is the wide visor, which not only greatly increases the field of view of the user, but also aids in visibility should the Spartan for any reason; leave the area of operations.

As Mjolnir advanced, so too did the EVA variant. Not long after the Chi Ceti IV incident, the MK IV version of EVA was introduced and worn by several Spartans, the most notable being Kelly-087 during a rescue mission.

That model was soon replaced by the MK V version that saw use during the Fall of Reach in late 2552 by Spartan-III, Emile-A239. With Reach glassed, all Mjolnir development was shifted to Earth temporarily. During this time the MK VI variant was completed but never saw wide spread adoption due to the limited number of remaining Spartans and the Battle for Earth taking place shortly after Reach fell.

With the Covenant War officially ending in 2553, the EVA armor was one of the few original variants that were not only continuing development, but also one of the few that were still designed and produce by ONI’s Materials Group.

MJOLNIR POWERED ASSAULT ARMOR /S VARIANT [GENERATION 2]

One of the longest running configurations for the Mjolnir armor system is the /S Variant, more commonly known as Scout. Developed alongside with the /R Variant (Recon), the Scout armor serves a similar purpose. Designed to increase overall stealth and maneuverability, it is made of highly advanced materials that cause minimal loss of endurance compared to heavier variants such as EOD and was tested on the Earth city of Perth in Australia under the supervision of ONI’s Beta-5 division.

Present in every phase of Mjolnir armor since the fifth iteration of it’s first generation, the Scout variant has served numerous Spartans well. Some of the more well known Spartans who preferred this armor are Spartan-III Jun-A266 of Noble Team and Spartan-IV Commander Sarah Palmer of the UNSC Infinity. 

The armor went through a noticeable design change when development began on the Mjolnir MK VI variant of the armor, and that overall design has remained mostly consistent with the most recently developed Gen 2 set. The wide slit-like visor allows for good field of view, while remaining narrow enough that it is difficult for the opposition to easily spot. This feature has remained the most consistent and is a hallmark of the Scout armor system.

Aside from general improvements in Mjolnor technology, the Gen 2 suit is prefered by Class-8 Foward Deployment Operatives (FDOs) and contains a highly advanced covert anti-tracking system that is used in tandem with numerous shroud-induction packages.

///INTEL: NOBLE TEAM///

A special operations unit composed entirely of Spartans, Noble Team was regarded by those who knew of existence as a highly efficient fire team. During the training and augmentations for both Alpha and Beta company for the Spartan-IIIs, numerous individuals were noted to match the genetic markers set by Dr. Catherine Halsey for her Spartan-II Program.

Before these Spartans undertook suicide missions that would wipe out nearly all of their numbers, Lt. Commander Kurt Ambrose and CPO Franklin Mendez pulled these individuals from their companies deeming them too valuable for suicide missions and were given assignments more befitting their advanced skills.

Noble Team had seen numerous suicidal missions prior to the Fall of Reach, leaving Carter-259 and Kat-320 as the only original members. Rounding out the team in the summer of 2552 was Emile-239, Jun-226, Jorge-052 (the only Spartan-II on the team), and Spartan-312.

Noble Team served under the command of Colonel Urban Holland during the Reach campaign. Participating in OPERATION UPPERCUT, the Battle of Szurdok Ridge, the Siege of New Alexandria, and the Battle of Azod.

As the war for Reach dragged on, Noble Team’ members gave their lives one by one to stop the Covenant juggernaut: 

Carter: KIA. Rammed Pelican into enemy Scarab.

Kat: KIA. Killed by an Elite Field Marshall’s Needle Rifle by not activating her shields.

Emile: KIA. Elite Zealot energy sword through torso. 

Jun: MIA. Last seen escorting Dr. Halsey to Castle Base.

Jorge: KIA. Died after manually detonating splipspace bomb to destroy the Long Night of Solace.

Noble Six: KIA. Died fighting off numerous Elite warriors single handedly.

As time passed, Noble Team and their activities were eventually declassified. A monument to the fallen Spartans was constructed via millions of points of artificial light, making up the silhouettes of each team member. 

///INTEL: SPARTAN-II PROJECT///

Few organizations in the annals of human history reach the legendary status of the SPARTAN-II PROGRAM. The program went public in 2547 in the middle of the war to boost rapidly falling moral. With glorified stories of their victories and the infamous “Spartans never die”, ONI enhanced the exploits now mythical soldiers. 

However, what is known only by a very select few within ONI, is the SPARTAN-II Program’s questionable and highly controversial origins.

In order to effectively combat rebellion against the UNSC, soldiers of superhuman abilities were required. 150 six year old children across human controlled space were found to possess superior physical and mental abilities, however due to cut funding only 75 would enter the program. Orchestrated by Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, each child was kidnapped and flash-cloned. The children were replaced by the clones, who all died off in a matter of months, tying up the loose end of 75 children suddenly disappearing. 

The children were trained by CPO Franklin Mendez and a handful of trainers. Treated like adult marines, the children were forced to adapt to their new situation, or feel the shock of a stun baton until they cooperated. Due to their young and impressionable age, the children were easily indoctrinated with military values and warfare tactics.

When they reached the age of fourteen, all 75 children went under augmentation procedures to enhance their abilities.

These augmentations were:

  • Occipital Capillary Reversal-  Surgery is performed on the occipital lobe of the left cerebral hemisphere of the brain; the occipital lobe is the visual processing center of the brain, containing most of the anatomical region of the visual cortex. The surgeon performs a procedure on the capillaries, the smallest of the body’s blood vessels, to reverse the direction of blood flow in each capillary to boost the blood flow beneath the rods and cones of the subject’s retina. The rods and cones of the eye are light-sensitive receptors located in the back of the eye. Together they are able to detect movement, light and color, and relay that information back to the brain. This procedure produces a marked visual perception increase. {RISK: 11% of subjects could face retinal rejection and detachment causing permanent blindness. }

  • Carbide Ceramic Ossification-  Surgery is performed on the arms and legs of the subject’s body to expose the bone. An advanced carbide ceramic material is grafted onto the skeletal structure to begin skeletal ossification. This process works by breaking down bone and rebuilding it stronger then before. This results in the bones being virtually unbreakable. The coverage of this procedure does not exceed 3% total bone mass due to significant white blood cell necrosis; to make up for that a growth hormone is administered to help strengthen the bones throughout the rest of the body.{RISK: 3.8% failure rate due to possible mutations and compromised bone marrow matrix integrity. In pre-and near-postpubescent adolescents, skeletal growth spurts may cause irreparable bone pulverization.}

  • Catalytic Thyroid Implant-  A platinum pellet is implanted in the left thyroid gland; this pellet contains a human growth hormone that is released into the body to boost growth of skeletal and muscle tissues. As the hormone is released into the body the pellet dissolves and is absorbed. The hormone targets and stimulates the growth of fast and slow twitch muscle fibers, effectively producing significant gains in muscle mass. The hormone also targets osteoblasts to help boost bone tissue formation and effectively strengthen the bone structure.{RISK: 2% of subjects acquire elephantiasis. Suppressed sexual drive.}

  • Muscular Enhancement Injections-  In addition to the growth hormone catalyst, a protein complex is injected intramuscularly that targets the muscles’ intracellular molecular machinery to help increase muscle strength and endurance. These injections target the muscles’ molecules increasing the density of the connective tissues and fibers, the more visible result being the muscles quivering and contorting over one another, making connecting tendons stronger and decreasing lactase recovery time.{RISK: 5% of test subjects experience a fatal cardiac volume increase.}

  • Superconducting Fibrification of Neural Dendrites-  Alteration of bioeletrical nerve transduction to shielded electronic transduction. 300% increase in subject reflexes. Anecdotal evidence of marked increase in intelligence, memory, and creativity.{RISK: 12% of subjects can contract Parkinson’s Disease and Fletcher’s Syndrome.}

Out of the 75 to undergo the augmentations, 30 were killed, 12 became physically deformed and unfit for combat, and 33 of the children survived to move on to the next phase of the program: MJOLNIR.

After the Covenant attacked Harvest in 2554, the SPARTAN PROGRAM was accelerated to its final phase: MJOLNIR. The enhanced power armor that would further increase the capabilities of the Spartans. Immediately after they had donned the armor, the Covenant attacked the planet CHI CETI IV. JOHN-117, SAM-084, and KELLY-087, boarded the Covenant ship, set off a bomb, and destroyed the vessel, although Sam gave his life for the victory.

The Spartans would continue to use the MJOLNIR MK IV armor for 26 years until the MK V, equipped with reverse engineered Covenant energy shielding would replace it. With their new armor, the Spartans were to take part of OPERATION REDFLAG. REDFLAG was the plan to hijack a Covenant vessel using the AI CORTANA, kidnap the Covenant leadership, and force a cease fire. In 2552 the Covenant located REACH, humanity’s fortress world on Earth’s doorstep. The majority of Spartans were left on Reach, as the MASTER CHIEF boarded the PILLAR OF AUTUMN, and was forced to leave the system.

Several Spartans did survive the Fall of Reach however, and proceeded to harass the occupying Covenant force. Following the Master Chief’s return from Halo, the surviving Spartans regrouped to warn Earth of the incoming attack. To give Earth a fighting chance, the Spartans were able to destroy the Covenant refit and refuel station, UNYIELDING HIEROPHANT; along with over 500 enemy ships.

Returning to Earth, the remaining Spartans were upgraded to MJOLNIR MK VI. All Spartan-IIs excluding the Master Chief were called to ONYX. After the PROPHET OF REGRET fled Earth following the decimation of the most of his forces, IN AMBER CLAD with the Master Chief on board followed the Prophet to Delta Halo. While his fellow Spartans discovered and fought along the SPARTAN-IIIs on Onyx, the Master Chief assassinated the Regret, witnessed the death of the PROPHET OF MERCY, and through a chain of events found himself returning to Earth aboard the Forerunner Keyship that had until recently powered HIGH CHARITY, carrying the PROPHET OF TRUTH.

The Master Chief was forced to abandon the ship as it entered Earth’s atmosphere. The Master Chief regrouped with UNSC forces and defend the city of Voi from the BRUTE led invasion. The majority of Truth’s forces fled through the portal that led to the ARK. The Master Chief along with the ARBITER, killed Truth and put a stop to the Flood threat.

In the aftermath of the BATTLE OF ONYX, the ONI black ops group KILO-FIVE recovered the remaining S-IIs and S-IIIs and arrested Dr. Halsey. In 2553, the remaining Spartan-IIs along with the Spartan-IIIs were offered the opportunity to integrate within the SPARTAN-IV PROGRAM.

SPARTAN-B312

Spartan-B312, also known under callsign NOBLE SIX; was a Spartan-III commando and one of the unsung heroes of the Covenant War. Although most of Noble Six’s information is still covered in black ink, including birth name and even gender; we recognize the Spartan’s courage and sacrifice that helped bring an end to the conflict.

Spartan-B312 was assigned to NOBLE TEAM, a fire team made up entirely of Spartans during the Fall Of Reach. Noble Six was took part in OPERATION: UPPERCUT, that lead to the destruction of the Covenant super carrier LONG NIGHT OF SOLACE, though not without the lose of Noble Team member, JORGE-052. Once back on Reach, the Spartan aided civilian evacuation efforts in the city of New Alexandria, and proceeded to eliminate Covenant forces in key strategic locations such as Sword Base. Noble Six was give the high priority task of delivering a key fragment of the AI CORTANA to the captain of the UNSC PILLAR OF AUTUMN, the legendary JACOB KEYES. 

Noble Six’s successfully carried out the assignment and Cortana was delivered unharmed to Keyes. In doing so, Noble Six put events into motion that would allow JOHN-117, the Master Chief; to discover Halo and eventually find a means to end the war.

Little is truly known of Spartan-B312’s ultimate fate after the Autumn left Reach; but what is know is that Noble Six’s damaged helmet helmet was found near the bodies of countless high ranking Elite warriors.

We remember Noble Six and we will not forget the sacrifices the spartan made so that we may see an end to the war and a return to peace.

///INTEL: MJOLNIR GENERATION 2 POWERED ASSAULT ARMOR///

Like their S-II and select few S-III predecessors, SPARTAN-IVs are equipped with a variant of MJOLNIR Powered Assault armor. This variant of Mjolnir includes many of its previous incarnations technologies which have since became hallmarks of the armor system.

These standard technologies include but are not limited to:

  • Energy Shielding
  • Magnetic Weapon Placements
  • Built In Fusion Reactor
  • Heads Up Display (HUD)

Mjolnir GEN 2, like Mjolnir MK V GENERATION 1 and MK VI is also capable of additional customization options, which at the time of writing we know very little about. What is known however, is like that of previous generations, GEN 2 is capable of using refined equipment commonly referred to as “Armor Abilities”. 

The following is a list of known Armor Abilities:

  • ACTIVE CAMOUFLAGE EMITTER- used light bending technology to render the user nearly invisible.
  • HOLOGRAM MODULE- sends out a holographic doppelganger of the user to distract enemies.
  •  THRUSTER PACK- installs a T-Pack into the armor, allowing the user the ability for limited vertical take off.
  • PROMETHEAN VISION- recent technological advancements allow Spartans to locate hostile targets visually through walls.
  • HARD LIGHT SHIELD- Recovered Forerunner/Promethean tech allows Spartans to project an aegis of pure energy to absorb oncoming damage.
